Every year, in July, fiestas occur in fishing villages all over the Island, when the statue of The Virgen del Carmen is paraded through the streets to the port and taken out on a specially decorated fishing boat for a ceremony at sea. The ceremony is a specific blessing for fish and fishermen. The blessing occurs twice in Los Abrigos-once in the middle of the day and again at night. The fiesta concludes with a wonderful firework display around 10pm. | | |

 | Every year in September, the Village of Los Abrigos celebrates Fiesta, in honour of the patron saints of The Virgin del Carmen and San Blas. Lasting for anything from 5 to 8 days and nights it is one long party for locals and visitors alike, with eating drinking, parades and dancing in the town square to the wee small hours! Sleep is definitely not on the agenda but having fun certainly is! | |

Fiesta de La Virgin del Carmen |
 | This Fiesta is essentially for the fisherman to thank their patron saint and takes place in July. The town band preceeds the statue of the Virgin as it is paraded shoulder - high through the village from the Church to the harbour and thence out to sea on a fishing boat for the ceremony. The parade happens twice on the day -at lunchtime and again in the late afternoon. In the evening there is free Paella for all and music, dancing and fireworks into the night! | |
