In the North East of the Island lies the historic town of Santiago del Teide. Las Galletas retains many of the features of the traditional fishing village that were its origins: the harbour and fresh fish market where you can buy direct from the fishermen! Today it has become a popular destination for Spanish tourists as well as British, French, Belgium and German visitors and expats attracted by the relaxed atmosphere. Its natural pebble beach is good for swimming and diving and the seafront has many bars and restaurants.  | Every year in June on San Juan night, there are big celebrations all over the Island. Bonfires are lit on the beach and people have BBQ's whilst burning away the "sins" of the past year. The brave also go into the sea to let 7 waves break over them to complete their cleansing! |

 | Listed as one of the 10 most beautiful places in the world by The Times, Masca is certainly one of the places to visit on the Island! Be prepared for the drive up a narrow road with hairpin bends and massive drops....but amazing views down the gorges to the sea and over to the neighbouring island of La Gomera. Often the clouds will be below you and the mountains seem to rise up out of them like islands from the ocean! Stop for a drink and tapas at one of the wonderful bars which seem to hang off the side of the mountains..or for the more adventurous, walk down the gorge to the sea and take a boat back to Los Gigantes. |

In August thousands make the pigrimage by walking to Candelaria on the East coast to attend the festival in honour of the Virgin of Candelaria-the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands.The procession carrying the statue of the virgin is attended by political and religious leadrs as well as thousands of pilgrims. This national holiday is marked by fiestas and fireworks in many other towns and villages. |  | |

 | One of the largest and most famous firework displays to celebrate the Festival of the Virgin of Candelaria is held at Alcala on the West coast, North of Puerto Colon. Thousands of people go by boat and moor offshore to party and watch the display which starts at midnight!! Late night or early morning and sore heads but one to remember! |

Situated between Los Abrigos and El Medano you will find the largest and only natural golden sand beach on the Island -La Tejita. Parasols and sunbeds are available for hire and the swimming is safe with a gradual shelving beach and wonderful clear water. All this and the Montana Roja nature reserve as a backdrop too! |  | |

 | Situated in hills above Puerto de la Cruz on the North coast, is the beautiful old city of La Oratava. With its cobbled back streets, typical Canarian architecture and fantastic views down to the sea and up to Mount Teide, this is the perfect place for a stroll around, stopping at a pavement bar for coffee or a beer. There is a walking tour (maps available from the Information Office) which takes in the famous old residences and wonderful, interesting boutiques to browse in. |
